The guy in Amherst is willing to work on them and is cheaper, but seems to be new to Smarts with an assumed learning curve.
There are parts and services that you will not be able to get other than from a smart authorized dealer. I would like to see them around as I have no intention of giving up my car. The sales numbers here in the US make the car almost a hobby rather than a business proposition here. You get that learning curve everywhere. Take your car to someone you trust. The shop I used is in town (Bill's Auto repair Main St Hampden, MA) for me and they can give me a ride home after I drop it off. They are not smart specialists just have faith in the services they can provide.

Over $1300 for those three alone; I hope that last one isn't the starter! What are the sensor and the joint?
I believe one to be the steering angle sensor the joint you may want to ask someone that can do a part number lookup. I know I did not get to smoke it.

I should point out these are the discounted prices. The initial quote was around $750. after the steering angle sensor and speed sensor got replaced along with the starter motor the car still had the same problem that I brought it in for. That was when the "joint" got shipped in and installed problem now solved. Made me think of Click and Clack and the wallet vac.

Your right, I know the dealer is needed here and there. Im going to copy down your garage though.
Just for another viable garage, the one I went to is Zbylut Motors, rt 9 Amherst, right directly opposite University Drive.

I don't know much about these new super modern sensors. Im still having issue with a starter that you never once complained about, at least in the posts.....what are the odds of that?
Then, because I always over analyze things, I wouldn't believe them on the other things.

I'd be unhappy about buying a $205 joint and not being able to smoke it. So, there was no details about this "joint"? Does anyone know what it was?

I would not be happy shelling out $205 for one I could smoke. I must just not be rich enough to be a Mercedes customer.

So, what's the conclusion here? I'm due for my 20k service and am debating on taking her to New Country, or taking the drive to Warwick RI to the Inskip smart center out there. Or have you had good luck with the garage in Amherst?

I have only had to see the guy in Amherst that one time for the air bag fault (my fault). While he is fully versed on MB, he had a learning curve with my smart. He was more than willing to help reset my airbag, but for 1/2 hour it was a trial and error thing.
Apparently, maybe when you lease a Star, you have to subscribe to models or software update or something. He couldn't get it to communicate with my smart. IIRC correctly he finally did it using an older set-up/laptop.
Other than that my smart has been issue free coming up on two years soon. I did oil and filter myself during the summer, way early, I know. Still only at 6600 miles or so.
As far as New Country? I only have one visit to them. I wanted to A) find out where they are, and B) have them enter me to an 'account' in the computer. Well I know where they are now. They were extremely nice, even though WAY above my class. But they don't want to deal with you until you have actual work done, then they enter you in computer.
Also at the transition time, they had smarts on display/stock, even the cut away display. But no real dedication to smarts. No smart desks or people. No smart accessory kiosks. You had to visit MB parts counter for smart parts, yet no signs directing you to do so. Im sure this has changed now, approx. a year later.
My opinion is if you have been to RI and were happy, go there. Its only for service and go home, not a drawn out repair where you may have to leave it. Warwick is only a tad further than Hartford from Wmass.

Thanks for the reply!

My mother lives in Providence anyway, so I usually will go down and visit once or twice a month. I have stopped at the Warwick center once already, and spoke with Doug (who told me he runs the smart division for Inskip Warwick). He was very polite and chuckled when I asked him if they could take the CarMax sticker and plates off my car, and give me a smart Warwick plate frame, which he did without hesitation. I guess a little free advertising goes a long way. Either way, I think I will do business with the Warwick center for now if its a semi quick repair.
