What is the cost of a Smart USA extended service plan now offered thru Smart Centers?

I'm aware that Smart Centers now offer extended service contracts approved by Smart USA...and I have several questions...

1) What is the cost...I know they are sold in several mileage & time durations...

2) Most extended service contracts can vary in price from dealership to dealership...they have a fixed wholesale cost...and a recommend retail price...but usually...dealerships can set their own markup if they wish to be more competitive ...and try to sell more contracts...is this also the situation with the contracts available from Smart Centers...

3) I'm an original owner of my '09 Smart Brabus...I still have 7 months left on my factory warranty...and only 6,800 miles on my vehicle...I'm thinking about trading up to a preowned 2010 Smart Cabriolet... can I still buy an extended service plan from a Smart Center...I assume it costs less to buy the Smart USA extended contact when the vehicle is brand new...

Any further information would be greatly appropriated!

I believe a majority of the service contracts are aftermarket agreements. You might be better off working directly with the company, or some banks and credit unions offer a discounted rate when you finance a car through them.

I purchased one thru my dealer for my 08. It was 50,000 miles / 6 years, cost was $1452.00. Figured the car was new to the market so better safe than sorry and that would cover me for 74000 miles / 8 years. Totaled the car in January and cancled the policy, still waiting for my refund. Blood pressure is rising. Didn't get one for my 2010, figured I'd wait than go directly to a company selling a policy if need be. Make sure you read the fine print, bumper to bumper coverage doesn't mean they cover everything.

...

I went to Smart Center Boston a few weeks ago and was quoted about $2500 for my 08 Passion with 30k miles it. I about choked. When i checked last August it was about a thousand less. Ok i have 10k more miles since then but geez.... So if anybody has ideas on non-smart aftermarket warranties/service plans, let me know.

As far as a Smart extended warranty - just call a local dealership. I was told I can set the warranty up over the phone.

purchased an extra 2 years with my new 2011

I asked about the carrier, was told is was a Smart warranty. Paperwork was vague but the coverage is identical (on the items I checked) to the original 2 year warranty. The extra 2 years was right around $750. I haven't ever owned a car (other than a few of my Jeeps) for more than 3 years so I felt safe with the total of 4 years.

if you dont mind my asking - what did the coverage run? I am not worried about the Smart - It seems to be pretty dependable but the next few years may be tight financially so I want to see what is possible to curb any large potential outlays. My 01 Durango fell apart at 100k miles and cost me a fortune before i traded her in for the Smart. So I am just a little gun shy. I have driven old air-cooled VWs for years and never had any major problems. So the cost of repairs to these newer cars is hard to swallow! plus I live in an apt so I can't just pull the car apart in the parking lot. For some reason they seem to frown on car parts strewn around. :-)

I purchased both the "smart Extended Service Plan" and the "smart Prepaid Maintenance Plan".

ESP - $1395 - 60 months 60,000 miles Zero deductible
PMP - $1236 - 60 months 50,000 miles
