Daimler's statement for June

New York, NY – Daimler AG (stock exchange abbreviaton DAI) today [July 1] reported sales for the Mercedes-Benz Cars division (Mercedes-Benz and smart combined) of 22,121 units in the U.S. for June 2008. All sales figures in this release are on an unadjusted basis unless otherwise noted.
Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today [July 1] reported sales of 19,576 new vehicles for June 2008, bringing the year-to-date total to 119,279 units, marking the best first-half sales in the company’s history.
Sales for the smart fortwo remain strong with deliveries totaling 2,545 for the month of June. This brings the year-to-date total to an incredible 11,399 units in less than six months of being offered in the US market. The vehicle is attracting an overwhelming number of buyers who want a solution to high gas prices, a reduced environmental footprint and increased urban mobility on congested city streets – all in a package that's fun to drive. The fortwo offers a powerful combination of outstanding fuel efficiency, innovative safety, environmental friendliness and low cost of ownership. There are currently 69 smart centers open in 31 states.
A separate similar statement was issued by MB USA.

Please correct me if I am wrong

Daimler AG (DAI) german company owns a bunch of vehicle manufacturing companies I don't naturally assosiate with the company like Freightliner trucks, Detroit Diesel, Mitsubishi Fuso, Thomas built buses and others. One company called Mercedes- Benz Cars, German Company again builds the car line including our smarts. smart is a seperate company but still under the umbrella of Mercedes-Benz Cars. They handle the manufacture of all the car lines around the world. Mercedes-Benz USA LLC is an American Company that Imports and sells MB automobiles in the United States. They build nothing other than Fancy showrooms ect. In the US and only in the US the car (smart) is imported and sold by smart usa distribututor LLC an American Company
The reason we are getting smarts here in the US 10 years after the introduction is MB USA wanted no part of it and still don't.
Thank you Mr. Penski for bringing us the cars...
So where did i go wrong

The reason we are getting smarts here in the US 10 years after the introduction is MB USA wanted no part of it and still don't.
I don't believe this is the case at all. Ron Tonkin (dealership) in Portland, OR was trying to get the imported cars modified by a 3rd party to meet US safety and emissions. The company he was trying to work with claimed they were being strong-armed by the US folks that were supposed to certify their work such that they couldn't deliver in the early stages. By the time they may have been able to get things moving out of this limbo, MB announced the intent to develop a US-compliant model and sign up distributors. Ron Tonkin lost out to the Kuni group locally (much to my disappointment for Ron Tonkin's efforts).

I have seen no value-add from Penske, they're just the chosen middle-man as far as I can tell.

I wish there was something to tell us where our reservation was, I mean in the actual numerical order in which they were received by the company. Because while I understand the need for a certain amount of load balancing with respect to the amount of orders going to certain locations, I still think it is way unfair for someone who has reserved months later than someone else to get their cars first.

August Auto Sales: Daimler

NEW YORK (AP) - German carmaker Daimler AG said Wednesday its U.S. sales fell slightly in August from a year earlier as a 12 percent drop in the volume of Mercedes-Benz vehicles offset strong sales of the company's new Smart fortwo models.

Daimler sold 2,420 Smart fortwo mini-cars, which were first introduced to the U.S. market in mid-January. Since their introduction, Daimler has sold 16,378 Smart cars in the U.S.

Mercedes sales plunge, sending Daimler's US October sales down 24.5 percent

NEW YORK (AP) -- German carmaker Daimler AG said Monday October U.S. sales in its Mercedes-Benz Cars division fell 24.5 percent, as the introduction of the Smart car could not offset a sharp drop in Mercedes-brand vehicles.
Total sales at Daimler's U.S. operation fell to 17,232 in the month from 22,820 a year ago.

Sales of Mercedes cars slid 34.3 percent to 14,996, while the company sold 2,236 of the Smart models. Smart was introduced to the North American market earlier this year.

Mercedes-Benz USA said its best-selling model family, the C-Class, had a 40 percent drop-off in sales, and E-Class sales fell by half. The M-Class sports utility vehicle was the only model family to have higher sales.

For the year to date, total Mercedes-Benz sales in the U.S. have fallen 4.7 percent to 212,686 including 20,392 Smart cars.

The good

Ford estimates that it managed to gain market share for the fourth consecutive month - but, as you’ll see if you keep reading - the picture wasn’t entirely pretty. The automaker estimates that it attained 12.7 percent of the new car market in the U.S. - up 0.3 percent.

Smart’s sales were up 177.6 percent over last year’s figures - but before you assume that the automaker must be stuffing gold bullions in ForTwo gloveboxes, know that Smarts first arrived in the U.S. in the middle of January last year.

Volkswagen’s sales weren’t down as far as expected - in fact, the automaker’s new CC sedan posted its best-ever month.

The bad
Despite gaining share, Ford still saw a hefty drop in overall sales - but that only illustrates just how weak the market is on the whole.

Mercedes-Benz has reported a nearly 43 precent drop in January sales, barely cresting the 10,000 unit mark.

The ugly
The following manufacturers have reported January 2009 sales figures:

Ford, down 39.5 percent to 79,322
Lincoln, down 23.7 percent to 6,091
Mercedes-Benz, down 42.9 percent to 10,433
Mercury, down 44.2 percent to 5,183
Smart, up 177.1 percent to 1,776
Volkswagen, down 11.6 percent to 12,744

Automakers begin reporting January 2009 sales

Thank you indeed, 'Little John'.
For some reason, Daimler press page doesn't state the most recent figures as fast as you can get them.

It's somehow disappointing that this last January figure wasn't higher: remember that a year ago deliveries didn't start until mid-January... So the 177.1% increase is misleading. :(
