$35 code reader read/cleared a 450 diagnostic code

Hey all,
In the spirit of sharing (possibly) helpful info, the $35 OBD-II code reader I picked up upon the recommendation of friends on corvetteforum and fullsizechevy, and an import site- was able to read and erase the code our 450 cdi threw yesterday.

I got this inexpensive generic code reader (centech?) a few years ago at Harbor Frieght upon the recommendations listed above, because if it didn't work on the vehicle, the purchase price would have been lost (I think- not sure about "electrical" returns at HF.) Anyway, the little code reader has dutifully read all general OBD-II codes on a Ford, Chevy Corvette, Nissan, a Honda, and now the vehicle speed sensor malfunction on the 450 (according to Evilution - Smart Car Encyclopaedia). Sadly it will not talk to our E300...

Please bear in mind that if you want a reader-it's a quick, inexpensive tool that could save you a trip to the mechanic (or your dealer if yours is nice enough to let your 450 grace their garage- our will not) and if it is something easy to address yourself, but it is not a complete diagnostic tool, and I have no idea if it would work on a 451. For generic OBD-II codes however, it worked on our 450. For higher level diagnostics and programming, you would need to contact Leroy or someone other specialist with the almighty STAR system, and etc.

Garage
Great tip!

I know the ScanGauges don't work on the US 450s but they will do that and more on a 450 diesel.
