Skyline Drive 2012

Okay folks
Since I am the one planning the skyline run.
Here are my thoughts so far. Nothing carved in stone yet.

I have a personal event first weekend of Oct, so that's out.
Last weekend is too close to Halloween.

First weekend in Nov is SEMA, and I will be in Las Vegas for that.

SO, that leaves either Sat Oct 13 OR Sat Oct 20.
(I have to be at my church on Sun, so I don't plan events on Sundays)

I will put up a poll and make my final decision by Sept 15.

Either day is okay but we can do the 20th easily enough.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Greetings boys and girls (and anyone else)

It is the time of year that the leaves on the Skyline Drive (Shenandoah National Park) will be changing to wonderful colors.

Last year, I headed a smart tour and we had a bunch of fun.

Planning on doing it again this year.

Saturday Oct 13 OR Saturday Oct 20 (to be determined).

Depart from Tyson's Corner smart center at 6:30AM

"smart tube" (convoy) to Cracker Barrel Restaurant (15 Riverton Commons Plz
Front Royal, VA 22630-6768)

Meet at Cracker Barrel
7:30 - 9:00AM
Depart Cracker Barrel 9:00AM

smart tube to Skyline NORTH entrance

Meet at Skyline Drive NORTH entrance 9:30AM (closest intersection for GPS) S Royal Ave & E Criser Rd, Front Royal, VA 22630

If you are meeting the group here, WAIT for us by the Skyline Sign JUST after you turn off the Highway.

$15 per vehicle fee (sorry no half fee for smart cars I did ask)

Travel thru Skyline Drive periodically stopping for overlooks and potty breaks and lots of pics.

exit Skyline drive at Swift Run Gap (65 miles about mid point of the drive)

Lunch at http://www.logcabinbarbecue.com/
Log Cabin Barbecue
11672 Spotswood Trail
Elkton, VA 22827

(we stopped there last year, really good food)

WARNING: If there are 20 (or more) vehicles, we will be required to split into smaller groups and have 15 min between groups (we will plan on that when we have to)

The 20th is a good one for me. I do hope i can get to go this year myself. It be a sweet time to take batmite on another road trip.

Really?
Only 4 responses so far?

Well, you still have 2 weeks till the 15th.

8 hour drive to the lunch meet-up; probably too far but let me cogitate on it for awhile. :)

wrumbarger 09-01-2012 08:19 AM

While the BBQ at Log Cabin is REALLY, REALLY good. I'm not sure it's 8HR drive good (is that round trip/) Definately not 16hr round trip good?

BUT, if you can come out and play with us for the whole day (Breakfast, drive, and lunch) that would be worth it (at least to me)?

wrumbarger 09-01-2012 08:21 AM

Attn mods?

Is to possible to modify the poll to show (at least show me) who is responding?
Would be easier to keep track that way.
