smark What I get tried of, I the keep distance in front of me on the highway. Some clown, has to pull in front of you. I usally drive over the speed limit. My other two cars feel like they have some distance in the rear. Even if it only 2-6 ft.

jimvw57 But with a name like NCC1701, you could just fly over the top of them... (Just kidding)

Well, at least you didn't blame the victim, as other people have been known to do ... "if you didn't drive so slow they wouldn't tailgate", which is malarkey. If anything, I can be accused of driving too fast.

But ya can't drive faster than the car in front of you, which is usually the limiting factor in my driving speed. As for myself, I do not tailgate. If you maintain a safe following distance, some people perceive that as you are driving too slowly. It doesn't make a bit of sense, but that seems to be their thinking.

Yeah, the rear window is arm's length behind you (so?). I know tailgating when I see it. Watch the very same jerks as they ride the asss of the next vehicle they get behind. 15 feet at 50 MPH is tailgating, regardless of how near or far your rear window is.

smark Never have been in 6 years while driving the smart car. I own 3 small cars too. When we first got the Honda Fit 7 years ago. Some Hummer was being a a$$ and tail gating me.

"Smart Bullying", never heard of it. Just got my Smart and just joined the forum but makes sense. I have had a few people tailgate me already. It seems their mindset is "If I am behind this little POS, I'm going too damn slow". Thanks for the post, something to be aware of for sure.

mrmvolz Here in ATL... Lots of A-holes.....tail gaiters....AND I do not drive the speed limit, you can't here..you will be killed. Just have to drive as defensively as possible, keep your gun, holstered of course on the drivers seat...

T12121 I honestly expected to have more problems from idiot drivers being I live in Michigan (lots of "american made" only people in this state. But in my case rare and few.

But I do remember one time driving down a 3 lane road (middle turning lane,) I was in a 35 zone I was doing 35, big old truck behind me (jacked up big mudder style tires) was entirely to close. So I slowed down to try to get him to back off. Got down to around 20 mph, and then he passed me in the center left turn lane. I got back up to the speed limit (as quickly as I could in the hopes a cop would be nearby) and stayed there while his vehicle was chugging the gas!

As long as you don't get your own rear tires involved.

jbjinturner I was on I-435 in Kansas City last Sunday. Totally deserted highway. Speed limit 70. I was doing 70 in the right lane in my Smart. I drive a school bus for a living and we loose our jobs if we get a ticket - even in our personal car. So NO speeding. Out of nowhere a pickup appeared on my bumper and just sat there. Not another car in sight and center and left lanes open. I can't speed up so I started slowing down. I got down to 15 mph with my flashers on before he finally passed me as close to my door as he could get and disappeared in the distance. He was driving a Ford.
