davidp the 2 only downside of this car are cold temperature autonomy and the fact that it needs to be plugged in cold temperatures or you wont get full power output for the first 10-15 minutes under colder temps.. other than this i loved the car but changed it for a fiesta st recently

I like a change of season.

My Smart ED has been the best car I've ever owned in the winter. Always warm before I get in it, always as quiet as the day I bought it (no gas engine stuttering), no smell of fumes from the driveway wafting over to the side door while the car defrosts... perfect!

In the recent cold snap my Smart ED blew hot air in the morning in -16C. I had set the pre-condition to finish before I left for work.

In the evening, the car cold soaked (I only plug in at home) for 9 hours in -14C and I noticed the heat took about 3 minutes to be hot. Initially, it was noticeably warm and increasingly hotter air coming out during the first few minutes.

The ceramic resistive heater does take some time to warm up, but for me, even in very cold temps it's no more than 10 seconds to warm air, and a few minutes to very hot.

No issue at all with defrost, ever. Make sure you are not using recirculate button (which will just fog up the windows).

Alexandru Paul Popa yesterday it was -25C here in MTL and my car was barely giving lukewarm air, not HOT as you guys describe, is this normal? or given the fact that it was very very cold its considered normal?

my guess is that the car was blowing +20C air on max, barely to defrost the windshield, but nothing more i was freezing in the car

thanks

That's true for us humans as well; we can't get any colder than the actual air temperature. That's why they tried to replace the term "Wind Chill Index" with "Feels Like". Whatever you call it, it is an attempt to qualitatively describe the heat lost by a warm object in windy conditions.

I think we're in heated (or chilled?) agreement.

BUT these objects will ONLY be as cold as the ambient temperature. They will lose heat faster to wind blowing on them, agreed.

Boy do I agree with this! However, I think a good part of their problem is it isn't an app (application). It is a highly optimized webpage that only renders properly on a few given browsers. It doesn't even render properly in landscape mode on an iPad or iPhone. It only renders properly in portrait mode. If they wrote a true app they could uncouple themselves from changes to the browsers and make a usable user interface.

This one gives me mixed messages - why wouldn't smart/M-B want to provide bleeding edge product support with the roll out of ED?

As of July 2014
Android 52.5%
Apple 41.4%
Others 6.1%

That's my thought as well. I frequently get "Server Error, Log in Again" error message. Other times it struggles to sync. I thought that might be issues with the SMS/GSM communication, but the AT&T and T-Mobile coverage in my area are excellent. FWIW, I can't get the vehicle webpage to work at all using Safari on my iPhone 3GS. The "busy" spinner just spins and spins. It works for me less than 50% of the time.
