  1. Want to share my experience with the traction control (triangle) light

    smart Operation and Maintenance
It's been unusually cold here. Down to 6 F two nights ago. On a drive of about 35 miles (20 on highways) to downtown DC everything was cool. We parked in an underground garage for my wife’s out-patient surgery. As we left the structure, it was uphill to the ticket gate. I had a hard time...
  2. Heater blower motor repair

    Technical "stickies"
Remember what you did, this won't be the last time if you keep the car. Just yesterday, I had no fan. Today I did. So I think it's getting time for another tune up.
  3. LED lifetime disappointment & blinker speed

    smart Operation and Maintenance
I installed new LED tail light lamps all around 10 months ago after an OEM lamp burned out. I was delighted when the blinker/hazard lights functioned after the replacement. I didn’t use any resistors. One of Maryland’s finest informed me that I had a bad rear tail light. On closer...
  4. Poll: Fumoto Qwik-Drain Users

    smart Operation and Maintenance
It fit, so what the heck? I installed the screen. Love the valve too!
  5. Reluctor rings for 451 model?

    smart Operation and Maintenance
With all due respect to my northern neighbor/neighbour, and noting that the United State isn't a member of the British Empire: My dash lights and gauges went nuts, and I lost power. I could run sluggishly and slowly for about 10 seconds by switching the key off and on. So, no, the car didn't...
  6. Reluctor rings for 451 model?

    smart Operation and Maintenance
Was this an aftermarket, dealer, or manufacturer warranty? --- A word to all smart 451 owners in the snow belt: Beware of the reluctant reluctor rings! When they corrode to the point the ABS sensor can't read the ticks, the computer shuts down the car. This happens without warning. MD...
  7. Need reluctor rings replaced - Greater Boston area

    Technical "stickies"
Walter is my hero Walter sent me his two spare rings overnight express on only a verbal promise I would pay him . I replaced the rings at $30 each (with S&H) and avoided buying new axels at $479 each. This is the side of MB I really don't like. 1000 kudos to Walter! What a guy! What a...
  8. Need reluctor rings replaced - Greater Boston area

    Technical "stickies"
Joining this club in DC I think I'm joining the bad reluctor ring club. 2009 with 56K miles. Yesterday, on the highway, my passion started cutting out. Dash lights flashing like crazy. I would switch the key off/on to get a couple more seconds of runtime. I crawled home and searched SCOA...
  9. 195/55's all around

    smart Wheels & Tires
I installed the new size fronts and a Borla exhaust at the same time. I've getting sightly better mileage. But the smoother ride and better ability to take bumps is the best thing about this!
  10. Muffler/Exhaust rotted at flex connection point

    smart Operation and Maintenance
It's been several weeks since I installed the new exhaust. I'm pleased with the sound and (very) slight milage increase.
  11. You see this safety video... well it kind of was real like for me yesterday.

    Accident
Supplementals It seems the adjusters are living on the supplemental process. I've had my share of interactions :( over the years. Any more, it seems your initial estimate is low balled, and then adjusted up over time with supplemental filings when the shop finds more damage once they get all...
  12. Muffler/Exhaust rotted at flex connection point

    smart Operation and Maintenance
Update About the "third screw" or the OEM fastener that holds the OEM exhaust heat shield (above the CAT) to the stock exhaust. My fastener was rotted when I removed the OEM muffler assembly. The new Borla exhaust didn't include a place for this fastener, and I wasn't eager to replace it...
  13. 195/55's all around

    smart Wheels & Tires
E SMART: Yes, touring. And the Blizzaks are stock size, the bottom a new Firestone.
  14. 195/55's all around

    smart Wheels & Tires
P195/55R-15 Firestone Precisio tires I’ve had a chance to drive with the new 195/55’s all around, and I here’s what I found: OMG what a difference! Why aren’t these same-size and larger tires OEM? Highway: I drove home on the interstate against a stiff head/cross wind. When I would have...
  15. Muffler/Exhaust rotted at flex connection point

    smart Operation and Maintenance
RussBarns is right. The last two winters, highway crews have sprayed a de-icer on the roads prior to winter storms. A couple times, we got little or no snowfall. But it is a different animal from rock salt. New Borla 140299 (twin) is on. Looks and sounds great. Even with the new parts, my...
  16. 195/55's all around

    smart Wheels & Tires
On the Rial Le Mans 6-spoke 15x6 all around. Hope it handles better now. It sure looks better, and I can rotate now! Picture of two stock size mounts (the lens and the photographer really distorts the difference in size!), and the new tire/wheel combo. And two of the tires on, one in profile...
  17. Muffler/Exhaust rotted at flex connection point

    smart Operation and Maintenance
Not in stock Talked to the dealer's parts department this morning. Turns out the exhaust gasket is in stock, but the bolts are not. I was told "they don't replace the bolts" when they replace mufflers. Really? How can that be? Mine are shot after only 4 years. So, just know that when you...
  18. Muffler/Exhaust rotted at flex connection point

    smart Operation and Maintenance
'cause it's made out of the same fine steel as the rest of the unit.
  19. Muffler/Exhaust rotted at flex connection point

    smart Operation and Maintenance
My take is to have someone rev the engine while you watch for excess movement along the crankshaft axis.
  20. Muffler/Exhaust rotted at flex connection point

    smart Operation and Maintenance
The mounts are good. The engine doesn't rock at all. No ocean air here, but we do have road salt. Didn't want another stock exhaust because it will likely do the same thing.
