  6. Who makes good outdoor covers?

    Off-Topic Cafe
Hey Guys, A good friend of mine inherited his Dad's vintage Lincoln Town Car and doesn't have enough garage space to store it during our harsh NJ winters. Anyone have any recommendations about what company makes a good one, or, for that matter, what companies to avoid? TIA
  7. That colored plastic cap on the signal stalk broken or lost.

    Interior & Exterior
I bought the metal ones from smart madness back in 2008 and they're still fine. Don't know if they still carry them but it's worth a check.

  9. horn wires

    smart Operation and Maintenance
If you have average size hands you can remove the service flap and reach the wires from above and unclip them from the horn. But, it's very awkward and reinstallation is even worse. BTW, you should expect to get pretty scratched up in the process. It was bad enough so that I went through the...
  10. Fear of buyer's remorse

    smart General Discussion
My "08 passion is still my year round daily driver. Only when I need to take dogs, wife and baggage do we take the CRV. I've had little that I couldn't fix on my own but there are local mechanics readily available in my area if the need should arise. If they hadn't been discontinued, another gas...
  11. Anyone ever replace a windshield?

    Wraps, Paint & Trim
I had mine replaced by Safelite a few years ago and it's been fine. (It was covered by insurance and I don't remember what they billed them.) BTW, they did have to come back the next day because they didn't put a new gel pack under the "hockey puck" rain sensor and it doesn't work without it.
  12. Yikes, No Brakes! (brake line deteriorated)

    smart Operation and Maintenance
Well, almost none. Yesterday, I started off for work in my 2008 Passion. When I got to the bottom of the hill on our driveway, I hit the brakes to stop and the pedal went slowly down all the way to the floor!. The car slowed enough so that, with the help of the emergency brake, I was able to...

No changes in gas mileage or performance as far as I can tell.
  14. Rain sensor stopped working after windshield replacement

    smart Operation and Maintenance
Me too. Safelite had to come back, take off the sensor and put a gel pack sort of thing between the sensor and the glass. It was several years ago so I don't remember exactly what they used, but it was a kit designed for a sensor in a different make of vehicle. It did fix the problem.

FWIW, I have gotten that code often over the last 11 years. Usually clearing it and reseating the gas cap is all it takes. Once, years ago, I had to clean the gasket on the gas cap to get the code to stay away. Nowadays, it happens about 2 - 3 times a year.
  16. 25 Below? No problem.

    smart General Discussion
Thank you, guys. Didn't mean to hijack the thread, just wondered how you stayed warm in the cabin in those extreme temperatures. I thought that my odd interior heat was just another quirky "feature" of the 451's. This is my 11th winter with it and I've just learned to dress appropriately.:D Stay...
  17. 25 Below? No problem.

    smart General Discussion
Slightly off topic, but how do you guys stay warm inside? When it gets below 25ºF here I've got to keep it revved up to keep the engine temperature warm enough to get heat. It's 9 at the moment and just stopping at a traffic light drops the temp from 188 to 155 and I lose interior heat.
  18. LED or HID Headlamp bulbs

smart fortwo (451 - US vehicle)
Funny. I thought it was probably the driver's side.
  19. Head Scratchier problem (3 bars, stuck in park, no start)

smart fortwo (451 - US vehicle)
IIRC some had bad crankshaft position sensors that kept theirs from starting. But, I think theirs did turn over although I'm not certain of that.
  20. Long-time smart owner in need of help with radio (iPhone)

    New Members Area
I have an older smart with the 3mm jack and plug my iPhone directly into that. But, with the proper cables/adapters, you could plug your iPhone into the same port you used for the flash drive. Chances are good that will solve your problem.
