  1. new mod for rear tire camber

    Technical "stickies"
So, do you voluntarily get hit in the head, because there's no certainty it will kill you? Do you wear seat belts?
  2. Jack adaptor

    smart Operation and Maintenance
There’s an aftermarket adapter for Porsche jack points for use with a floor jack. Having owned one previously and still having the adapter, I was thinking of making an adapter to use it with the rear suspension tubes on my Smart. If I made 10 instead of 1, would anyone be interested in one?
  3. 453 Owners. Need your guidance

    smart General Discussion
Likewise with me, but I wasn’t impressed enough with the 453 to even consider trading my Passion Cabrio in on one, despite the amazing deal Benzel-Busch offered me on it. Perhaps being stuck with transmission in “granny mode” due to lack of paddles in the loaner skewed my impression. I’ll...
  4. 453 Owners. Need your guidance

    smart General Discussion
Just like with Porsches and a few other cars, staggered wheel width and negative rear camber are designed to help with off throttle oversteer in rear weight-biased cars, like Smarts and 911s. Putting looks ahead of handling and safety is a fool’s game IMO.
  5. Broken muffler/flex hose 2012 Smart Car

    smart General Discussion
Forgot to add: I saw them listed somewhere not too long ago. Smart Madness??? I apologize. I can’t remember where.
  6. Broken muffler/flex hose 2012 Smart Car

    smart General Discussion
IMO, the OEM design is bogus. Repaired my flex pipe twice in two years. My Remus has been “Auspuffing” (semi) quietly for 4 years without drama. If they’re NLA, you might have to do what I did to find my Remus: scour the Internet until you find a dealer that still has one in stock. Like I said...
  7. Broken muffler/flex hose 2012 Smart Car

    smart General Discussion
Buy a Borla and have a competant muffler shop install it. Forget the OEM garbage. I got a Remus, but apparently I got the last one in existence.
  8. Spongy Brake Question.

    smart Operation and Maintenance
So, I did the brakes on my '08 Cabrio yesterday. Pads, Rotors, and shoes. Nothing out of the ordinary. After buttoning it up, I would assume the pedal would return to normal after a few applications of brakes (due to me compressing the caliper pistons and drum slave cylinders in to get the new...
  9. Has anyone bought the iCarsoft 890 scanner, aka MBII?

    smart Operation and Maintenance
I have their MB-II and it works great, although if you check the W-163 forum on BenzWorld there's another one that is now more highly recommended. (Came out right after I bought my MB-II, Dang-it). Autotel or Autodatel or something. I can't remember which model. Like MB-II, it dies...
  10. Clutch Actuator adjustment

    Technical "stickies"
I want to thank everyone who posted in this thread. Did the deed this morning. To say "So easy a caveman could do it" doesn't do justice to how easy it is. TBH, the two hardest parts of the whole job were undoing the electrical connector with cold fingers and getting the boot back over the...
  11. Clutch Actuator adjustment

    Technical "stickies"
So, is there anyone out there with a good knowledge of WIS procedure? It looks like I'm do for some of this stuff at 73K on the (AFAIK) the original clutch, I'm getting some P0805 and P0900 codes and a few non-starts that cleared up after a few minutes.* My question is this: Step 9 says...
  12. Clutch Actuator adjustment

    Technical "stickies"
Funny you should mention that. https://youtu.be/RoiBNpv9BOA
  13. Weird No Go Situation

    smart Operation and Maintenance
Gosh, when I had this happen and came here to post, I searched all sorts of terms and found nothing. Now there are three clutch actuator threads, and owners experiencing the (relatively) same issue as me on the front page. Like an idiot, I hadn't finished my coffee yesterday when I scanned the...
  14. Wiper Blades...

    smart Operation and Maintenance
Yeah, maybe I'm just living in the past. What a waste. Although I generally see a bunch of replacement blades hanging in the auto parts store. https://youtu.be/QR1GccvA6XQ
  15. Ghost in the Machine....(radio)

    smart Operation and Maintenance
After owning my car for 6 years and lamenting the lack of an "ACC" position on the ignition switch, I discovered, quite by accident, that you can simply turn the radio on with the key off after the car has been running. I'm assuming this works until you open the door, but who knows. For all I...
  16. Weird No Go Situation

    smart Operation and Maintenance
Had a bizarre set of circumstances happen today: Driving my 2008 Cabrio I pulled up to a place, shifted into neutral, left the car running while I ran a quick errand, came back out and when I tried to shift into reverse, the gear indicator disappeared from the instrument cluster and no shifty...

  18. CEL Light-Bank 1 Running Rich at Idle

    smart Operation and Maintenance
Wanted to wait a while to make sure the issue was resolved before I posted. After reading all I could and watching a few YouTube videos, it dawned on me that the last two times I'd done a service I had only blown out the air filter. So I ordered a new one from Amazon and voila, no more CEL...
  19. CEL Light-Bank 1 Running Rich at Idle

    smart Operation and Maintenance
So my 2008 Cabrio has been throwing CEL lights of late. Code P2188. Thought I'd get a Star Diagnostic Scan to narrow it down but the cheapest one I can find is $140. i.e. About the same price I can buy a star device on eBay. Can anyone shed light on the code? I did a high-test/Italian tune up...
  20. Transmission issues when driving slowly

    smart Operation and Maintenance
I'm glad to hear you got things sorted without a big out-of-pocket. It sucks to find out your warranty expired a month ago. I have mixed feelings about it. I used to use it on my carbureted motorcycles until (I believe) it dissolved the float bowl o-rings in my FCR carbs. I just use...
