-Tuning shop sticks a turboed engine(1000cc) that puts out 200hp with some effort into a 451 several years ago. From my research, it can only be pushed to 280hp. 80's-90's engine design.
-Has anyone put a 1kr-fe into the 451? Someone has put a 1.5L from the yaris into the 451 and this engine was in the yaris as well as the IQ. Should be an easier install and a turbo on the 1.0L would surpass the n/a 1.5L.
- There is a turbo version of the toy/dai 1000cc if by any chance the 1kr has a limited hp limit.
As my response to the comment........ Even if you could get 200hp from the 451 engine, you would still be limited by the transmission lag. Have we even hit 150hp from either the 451 or 453?
There have been stock bottom end 451's that come close to 200hp, through the use of aftermarket turbo kits. One former member here had a cow-colored smart that he claimed was getting close to 300hp, but he was having to do some extensive internal modifications to the engine. I'm not sure he made it before he gave up.
As Huronlad stated, any small form factor transmission and clutch is going to have durability issues as well at that level.
The transmission lag is largely due to the time it takes for the engine to change speed. The electronics and actuators can move very quickly, if allowed. You can go with a lightened flywheel to increase shift times, but even those get expensive very quick.
Believe it or not, these drivetrains have been around for a long time, and pretty much anything that can be done, has. The 3B21, and 1KR-FE are high-stress, economy engines. They were just never intended to operate much past their design limits.
