2005 smart issues

I'm having trouble with my 2005 Foreign model Smart Car. Need to talk to someone about programming it. Mercedes and my mechanic can't do anything since they don't have software for Foreign Smart's brought into this country. Car just won't start. My mechanic replaced starter, since it was bad. They had to rebuild it since no parts either can be gotten for a foreign model. Car dash panel lights up ok with several hash marks. Several trouble codes appear too. B1310, B1011, C1313, B1022, B1060, B1020, B1014 Just to name a few. My mechanic thinks there is no communication from CAM BUSS system with main ECU Suspect possible wiring issue of Cam Unit issue. No parts in USA and no Programming Software available. Please email me if anyone can help. Car has low miles and would like to get it started. I'm located in Santa Clarita, Ca. if anyone can help me. Thanks.

Ron.

Welcome to SCoA! :)

My guess is your best bet is to contact Smart Madness since they seem to have a handle on the earlier models:

Merged your two posts. Thought you would have called Smart Madness already. :)
No, not yet. Guess I will now..I enter them an email describing situation. Funny the key opens an locks doors and turns on fine in ignition. Panel lights up Andy flashes lines in middle and temp and fuel level flashes. Doesn’t show Park or any other gear positions.

Thanks

Edit: I've been mixing my 450 and my 451. Your 450's battery bay should look like this:

The thick black cable that exits the battery bay goes to the positive. The brown one is your ground and goes to your negative.

I thought the Positive cable leads to starter, not the negative one? Don’t think I can fit both cables on battery post.

Thanks, Ron
Looks like I was mixing up my models! The 451 has two sets of cables that go to a grounding post. The 450 is simpler than that. The thick black cable that goes into the frame is your Positive. The thinner brown cable that attaches to the frame is your negative.

If you have more than that I'd recommend posting a picture so we can see what's going on? :)

I keep forgetting to nab a picture of what mine looks like, I'll get one after work. For now, I added some example pictures to my post above.

Hi Rons442,

I also have a 2005. My mechanic may be able to help you, because he has the grey market Smart software, but he's near me in Mar Vista. Hope this can solve your problem! Talk to Andreas at Stepke Imports, 310-397-9744, 3815 Moore St., L.A. 90066

Also, I get OEM parts from my Canadian dealership source, Three Point Motors. Talk to Sean Woodworth, 1-250-385-6737. If they don't have a part, they can get it from their German warehouse.

Welcome to the world of grey market ownership!

I have a 2005 Smart Cabrio 450. It sounds like you might have the 3 bars of death....meaning its actually a transmission thing and the car will not start. Its your clutch actuator. I've replace it twice and my car only has 71K miles.
