Just curious, came across this older, but perfectly good looking older smartcar, 2005 diesel with 110,000 Kms (70k miles?). Owners says battery wont hold a charge. Says the SAM module was replaced.

I'm ok in mechanic, familiar with diesels (boats and cars), but not Smart diesels.

If I can get this for a song, is it worth the headache?

I am guessing wiring probably needs to be redone, anything else?

You might want to post also on Club Smart Car, the Canadian site - owners there are very experienced with the 450 cdi - US owners not nearly as much.

Yep. Canada officially received the diesel smart, the U.S. did not. There are probably 100 or more diesel smarts that have found their way into the U.S. though. Also, that’s a pre 2008 first gen smart. None of those of any motor config were ever imported into the U.S. by Mercedes.
