Hello, I am a new member and will make an official introduction when I am back on my computer (on cell now). I was hoping if someone could post a pic of the passenger foot area to see how the carpet/floor area sits. I ask because I just purchased my smart and I'm doing work on it to get it ready for inspection when I noticed that the passenger carpet doesn't sit flat, because of the battery.

The battery sticks up a little through the carpet and I need to see someone else's Smart to compare. I have replaced the battery, because the car had none when purchased. I thought the one I purchased was to big (stuck up some under carpet) so I returned it and went to a completely different store and provided my car info. The store looked up my Info and gave me my current battery. The 2nd battery also sticks out "some" is this normal? Can I see some pics of a few of you guys floor area to compare? I can't imagine this is correct, but the dealer wants almost $300 dollars for a battery from them.

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you're missing the foam insert that covers the battery area. When that is inserted, the passenger foot area is slanted like a footrest. It's large and black, and holds the towing hook-eye and tire pump.

Mine was missing too.

The info is: Footrest: co-driver's side A4519760660

Note: I had to trim mine a bit to fit well, and not fear it breaking when I removed it. I also put soft cotton cloth on all contact areas as it squeaks against the metal.

Yes, I am missing that, because under my carpet is just the battery. Thanks so much for replying and posting tha pic. Now I guess it's off to Ebay to try and find one.

FYI my smart is going to be a work computer car that eventually will have a commercial wrap with my company info. Until then I'm just getting work done to get it up to speed for Maryland inspection. I will post pics when I get tags for it, it for now it is a work in progress.

Thanks again!!!

Update 1/18/17--->>> I picked up and installed the floor foam today. It fir perfect without any trimming, or modification. One more thing has been removed from the list!

One last thing for anyone.

Does your battery sit flush with the passenger floor, or is the battery slightly raised when looking at it? I guess it is still possible that I have a battery that is to big/tall even considering that I am missing the foam covering that goes over top of it.

Thanks.

It sits well below the floor level. You need the foam insert - with the tow hook, air pump and tire sealant that it holds - to provide a firm floor on the passenger side.

Battery should be a Group 75 with a vent tube - there's a hose that will vent the battery to the outside of the car. Hope you didn't buy the car from a dealer....

Well I will have to return this battery too, because it sticks up a little past floor level, but it does have the vent part.. I was already ordering the battery hold down and vent hose from Mercedes. I'm searching a bit more before I order the foam from them too.

I did buy it as is from a small dealer knowing I had to do work on it.

Thanks for the reply.

The battery ended up being fine per Mercedes. Without the foam footwell cover I just thought it was too big. The battery is vented and the right group and since I installed the floor cover it is the way it should be now.

Thanks for the info though!

Make sure the vent tube is attached or it will let the battery gas into the car.
Welcome to the forum.
I’ve never had my foam block make any squeaky noises and I live on a gravel road and trust me it can make anything make noise.
