Any one remember this 2008 service update. Transmission software, shifting, and paddle shifter. I also received, a new owners manual, and battery.

Sure, I remember this software update. I believe there were two software updates. This one is called the 8.1 and the 8.2 addresses the "not always going into reverse" issue. You will have to visit your smart Center Service Dept. to have your car updated, unless it has been done already. They will have a record of whether or not your car has been updated. If you need the updates, which I recommend, you will probably have to pay for them since an 08 is way out of warranty.

the battery update was for an undersized battery on specific models that had a convenience package and not all cars got that.
