first thing: is there a standalone remote that will simply open/lock the doors? i would use this with a non-remote features key.
2nd: i know that a locksmith can pair the key chip to the car in order start/operate, but can the lock\unlock, etc features be paired only by going to the dealer or is there some other way?

For the 451…

There are aftermarket rectangular shape “flip style” fobs that hide the metal part of the key, although I have not tried them.

When programming keys, ALL must be present at the time the new key is programmed. if new keys are programmed, any keys not present will be able to turn the key to position 1 or unlock the driver’s door, but they won’t start the car.

Up to 6 keys can be programmed.

A locksmith with a programming computer or Mercedes Star machine are required to program the keys. There isn’t a do-it-yourself option (unless you have one of the aforementioned tools).
