Good afternoon all,
I just purchased a 2012 smart fortwo.
I had a full inspection done by a local mechanic as condition of the sale, though I generally do my work on my own, and I am being told that it is need of a full exhaust system, including the flexible connection pipe.

I am not opposed to replacing it with aftermarket/ performance parts (I did so with my 2002 WRX I owned as well.)

So,
question being, if I wanted to do what I detail above, and since I'm not really looking to actually tear-ass with a high performance system, what would you all recommend as a place to start?
Who can give a me a shopping list of reasonably priced aftermarket parts to do a full catback on a smart fortwo?
I mainly ask because these are weird littl cars and the nomenclature used on parts is a little different than on other cars.

Also check out Solo performance exhaust at the link below.
I have one of their stainless steel side exit performance exhaust. I have had it for about 4 years now.

You can get Solo exhausts direct from Solo Performance. They have two choices, both louder than stock. I recently bought the side exhaust, nice sound and great service from Solo.

There is no elaborate exhaust system. There is an exhaust manifold connected to a cat converter. Smart Car Fortwo Passion Pure (2008-2015) OEM Exhaust Manifold 1321400010 | eBay I doubt they need replacing. Next comes the flex pipe and muffler unit. NEW Genuine Smart Fortwo (451) Petrol Exhaust Back Silencer A1324900015 | eBay The usual issue here is the flex pipe breaks. That is That. Smart owners have a new flex pipe welded in or replace the muffler with stock or after market unit. So there is no big mystery here. If you do your own exhaust work just see if a flex pipe will hold you for the time being. I replaced my flex pipe 2 years later it broke again and I had the Sila Side Exit Exhaust installed.
Note check the front Motor Mount.
A failed front Motor Mount is a large factor in flex pipe breakage as it allows more Engine movement then the flex pipe should have to handle.

I can't remember where I got my exhaust, perhaps mbpartsonline.com, but get a set of lowering bolts / record release bolts (Part # 450 589 00 62 00) as it will make this and many other very difficult jobs much, much easier. They will allow you to separate the body from the drive subassembly by about 8" (20cm) which is enough to make otherwise difficult jobs easy and doesn't require a lot of effort.
