Is it necessary to drain the AC to replace the fan unit or is that a short cut?
Just did mine. You can angle the unit out and get away with not draining the ac unit. You will, however, need to disconnect the coolant hose. If you do it at the top, you can drain a bit, then fill up just a little after you put everything back together.

Remember to disconnect the battery and leave it for an hour or two BEFORE disconnecting any of the airbag sensors on the front end, or you'll get an error code that won't go away. I learned that the hard way. Then it's either a 149 dollar roll to clear it, or a visit to the dealer mechanic.
