2013 Smart Fortwo passion speaker wire polarity

Hello all, I am upgrading door speakers in my 2013 smart. I was wanting to install after market speakers and I am stumped on the factory speaker wiring. On the driver side it's two green wires with one having a brown stripe. On the passenger side it's two grey wires with one having a white stripe and the other black. You would think the brown striped and the black striped ones are the negative but they are opposite to each other on the harness. I am kinda stumped so any help is welcome. Thank you.

Hi, I have just been through the same anguish as the wiring colours connecting to the speakers in the door don't correspond with any colours I've seen online. My wiring has the same colours as yours. However, today I confirmed positive and negative with a multimeter from the back of my new Sony head unit. I established that front right is green positive and green/brown negative. The green ends up on the radio plug block on pin 3 (orange). The green/brown ends up on the radio block on pin 4 (brown/pink).
My front left at the speaker end was light purple/white which is the negative and appears at the radio block on pin 6 (black/white). The other wire was a light purple/black which is the positive and appears at the radio block on pin 5 (purply/brown colour). Check yours is light purple not grey on front left. My new head unit sounded no better than the original radio until I did this exercise. I had the left speaker reversed. Now it sounds much better.
My car is a 2011 Night Orange Cabrio MHD, in the UK
Good luck
Martin

Thank you for your reply, that was my next plan. I was going to put in a new head unit and trace the wires then tap a 9 volt to the wires to find the polarity. I also found this test online: Online Stereo Polarity (Phase) Sound Test . For me the out of phase 75hz tone sounds louder which makes me think it's out of phase for both. I have a USA smart so it may be different.
