I thought mine was a 3rd Gen 451. But then I ran into a page in a service manual that showed two gens for the year. I think I saw a post mentioned that the 3rd gen was delivered later in the year.

How can I find out which Gen I have?

I thought the 3rd gen started in 2013. The easiest way to tell if you have one or the other is the top speed. I believe the 2nd gen tops out around 65mph. The 3rd gen tops out around 80mph.

The ED2 (Tesla battery) was from 2009 to 2011. The ED3 (battery by MB subsidiary) was 2012 and on, starting with the 2013 model year.

Only the 2011 version ED2 ever got into public ownership. The rest should have been scrapped, though you never know how many avoided the crusher.

Your 2014 is an ED3. Per the manual you're reading, your correct specs are on the left.

The three phase program ended with the final 451 electric drive (2013+), so the 453 electric drive is just the 453 electric drive.

Perhaps this is why Kane from Evilution refers to the ED2 as the ED Gen 2 and the ED3 as the Gen 2, mk 2...less confusion?

I got mine up to 70 mph on a trip on the highway. That was the speed limit so I didn't go any higher. 80 mph, I dunno if I have the guts to go that fast in it. hehe

Oh man.... I thought I was only to get 68 miles. I haven't seen 87 miles yet on a full charge. ugh!

That would mean I'm only getting about 77% of the max range when I see 65 miles at full charge. I will have to look into this. 80% is the guarantee with warranty, correct?

Correct? - unfortunately no.

Wiki is not always right - the EPA rating for the U.S. Gen 3 (MY14) 451 ED was 68 miles as posted to the Monroney sticker.

Generally, you don't need to run the battery down to near zero (when the warning messages start and you go down to one bar on the power indicator) to get a good range estimate - and don't trust the "range remaining" indicator - it is usually very conservative especially in warm weather. Instead, just reset the trip odo and use the SOC gauge. For example, yesterday, I drove about 36 miles over typical conditions and terrain with the gauge going down to 60 percent. That would correspond to 90 miles per charge. But the range left indicator showed, at that point, only about 35 miles left or about 70 miles total range.

Just like the fuel economy ratings in IC engine cars, the EPA range rating is conservative if the car is driven carefully for economy in good weather. In the case of the new Smart ED, it is too conservative except in well below freezing weather.
