Hi, I?m new to SCoA....but not new to the SMART brand. This is my second smart. My first was 2008 which I recently sold. Now I own a 2017 smart convertible. I?m having minor issues with my key fob. When I park my car in my garage, often times the key fob will not remotely lock or engage the alarm on the car. And in rare
instances when the key fob is able to lock and engage the alarm remotely....when I go to remotely unlock it, it does not work. I then have to manually unlock my car. Funny thing, this NEVER happens when out in the open. Could I be getting cross interference in my garage? This never happened in my 2008 smart convertible.
I have not seen this happen to the smart 453's. It sounds like it will be difficult to diagnose if it works perfectly out in the open or elsewhere, because if you took it to your dealer's service department it sounds like it won't malfunction.
But, maybe it is interference in your garage. I would replace the fob battery with a new one and test it out first. If you have any other wireless devices in your garage or your house, try turning them off one at a time and see if your problem clears up. Once you have exhausted all of those attempts, if you're still having issues I would try it outside and repeat many times just to be sure it is working properly outside. If it is, most likely you are having interference issues while the car is parked in your garage.
