Looks....same reason they didn't remove the air scoop on the side.

The tridion cell is quite the engineering task. I would assume, that removing the air scoop is more expensive than just leaving it.

Just as a side note:
All the exterior facelift parts can be fitted on a old 453 smart. Seen that in Stuttgart already on 1 or 2 ones.
