My Smart car and my Saturn SL2 are now getting the same mileage, 42 MPG.

Of course the Smart is doing that in the city, and the Saturn on the highway...

Changed the 5th gear on the Saturn for a longer gear, from .730 to .605, about a 20% reduction in RPM's.


I wonder if we could do the same in a Smart?

I get 250mpg in my 25 year old car as far as what is paid at the pump after the math is done.

I wondered that too. I would like to drop 35k 72mph to about 25k at 72mph

My 2000 Beetle TDi w/200K miles running on B20 BioDiesel is still getting 50 mpg from 25-75 mph; 42 mpg from 90-130 mph (don't ask where & when, I'll deny it!)

Obviously, I didn't buy the smart for mileage - it's for the fun & adventure!
