Hi, I'm new to the world of Smart and just picked up an '06 CDI for a winter beater project. I just fixed the EGR issues now onto the airbag light.
According to my Autel Autolink scanner I'm pulling up a code

B0049 "Child seat lock recognition has an open circuit, short circuit to positive, or has high-impedance".

The car does not have the child seat rails installed, is it possible a previous owner did and pulled it out and didn't reset the computer?
I keep trying to clear the code with the scanner but it always pops back up.

I have some 2.2ohm resistors I may try and see if I can test on the passenger seat to trace any sensor issues.
Is there a seat occupancy sensor in the seat of a 450 or just the side airbag wire?

Has anybody else ever come across this code? I've searched the forums and haven't seen anything.

Thanks for any guidance!

I don’t have a 450 or access to one, but if it operates similarly to the 451, if the car is turned on while any airbag component is unplugged (including indicator lamps), a fault code is generated and requires a high-end scan tool or Mercedes Star Diagnostic to clear.

The B0049 code does not appear in my reference manual, but is a manufacturer specific code. I suspect the reader you have is either reading the incorrect code or interpreting the code incorrectly.

Do you know anyone that might have access to a Star diagnostic? That would be the best way to know for sure.

I just tried with a 2.2ohm resistor on the child seat sensor plugs hidden under the carpet of the passenger seat. This causes the code to change to

B0047 Child seat lock recognition has a short circuit to ground or us low-impedance.

I will try and see if I can get up to 400ohm resistance as per the Evilution faq on child seat installation and see if it changes the error code.
