I’m going to go out on a limb and say that mb will never bring it back since it seems that someone at Daimler corporate does not like smart or electric cars.

Also, I think that the modem in the car is 2g, and it is being phased out by all the major cell carriers.

I would say that your bet if you wanted some features similar to vehicle homepage,

Although they are investing, the EQC is frankly not a very good vehicle. A 2016 Tesla model X 75d can get about 417 km nedc range. The 2020 EQC only can get 450 km (with a 5kwh bigger battery, smaller vehicle, and with 4 years of tech improvements).

It also charges significantly slower on level 2, is slower, and has less advanced driver assists.

Sorry if I came off as argumentative.

The app is never coming back. The ED was saddled with a dying technology (2g radios). Further, MB really only guaranteed the app would work for 3 years so they did make it clear it wouldn't be around forever.

funny thing is the B class MB model has a similar page my login used to work there but data was all wrong.
Then that also stopped.
modem upgrade or upgrade to wifi should be possible. we could tether car to our phones 4g connection and get the soc and eco levels as before.
They just need to open source it

I use Fleet Carma's ODBII (www.fleetcarma.com) - it's excellent, provides all the info I need to populate the app I use called MyEVApp. Fleet Carma requires that you apply for the ODBII, it's free and the access to the data is also free. They'd rather provide fleet data than individual data but they're also looking for personal data to determine the future needs of electricity. I've been using it now for over a year, absolutely couldn't live without it. There's no guarantee that they'll accept you but if you beg the right way, then you're in.

Cheers.

It's closed source hardware and software. Worse, it uses 2G radios. I'm sure someone could probably figure out how to reverse-engineer/hack the system to work through other means, but MB has made it clear that they have no interest in any further support.

I have been using fleetcarma also for more than a year, it gives me visibility I would not have otherwise, and trip info etc.
Very good and free
They also pay me monthly for the data they want.

I fully agree MB has no real interest in EV cars.
My 2 dealers near me had 120v chargers, one is now recently closed for renovations and the other is always blocked. They think if there is no infrastructure then no demand for cars. It will only drive people to Tesla and away from MB

In your opinion, what are the most valuable features that the app used to have?

Is there willingness on the part of owners to pay for cell data service (figure $10/mo) to get those features back?

Is there a subset of those features that you'd be willing to have work only when your smartphone is in the car? (This would avoid any additional cost for cell service by piggybacking any of the traffic from the car to the web pages/phone app, but would not allow access to new data when the phone isn't in/near the car.)

Unfortunately the app was gone by the time I bought my smart so I'm not sure what features I would use. However, if the app allowed you to control the crazy radio (not the JBL) I would love that. I like the goofy phone holder on the 453 but it blocks all the radio buttons making operation of the radio while driving unsafe.

For me, the most useful feature was to see the instantaneous SOC. It let me know if I needed to plug it in or not without having to walk out to the garage. Yeah, a lazy butt I am, but that was how I most commonly used it.

Since I bought my 2015 brand new in June 2017, I have paperwork stating that the vehicle homepage will be available to me until June, 2020. I wonder what would happen if I took that into the dealer and demanded that they live up to that.

I’d be inclined to take that point up with them. There is still a 2G network available in the US (TMobile still runs one). If this factory system runs entirely on CAN messages and we could find the CAN traffic it generates, it would be possible to make a replacement system to provide the same functions over an alternate network (WiFi, 3G, 4G, LoRa, or other ISM).

Interesting - dunno that I have seen in writing a "promise" of their FREE vehicle homepage wherein an end date was defined??? Good luck with that as most M-B dealers are not ED nor homepage conversant???

Jim, may want to chat with jwarcd the author of EVAccess as he has rolled in the mud with the M-B (Germany) brain trust regarding how things functioned prior to the 2G plug being pulled. PM me if you need his direct contact information???

Personally, it would be nice if ED were able to communicate through a WiFi connection. Charging status and (pre-departure) preconditioning were my most used features. Unfortunately, my recollection is that the old "homepage" had a high reliance on the M-B server in Germany?

It should be noted that . . .

451 ED had a vehicle homepage and EvAccess, a 3rd party App.

453 ICE had an App but don't believe that the 453 ED ever had any App support?
