Battery Issues

Hi, I am an older insurance broker and car collector. My 2008 Smartfor two is one of my favorites. I have had it for about 10 years. Recently, the battery dash icon has come on and a new battery just runs down. Dealer has already charged me $1,000 for a "bad board". What else would be reasonable to check?

I’m going to go out on a limb and say maybe a bad alternator? That sounds like the symptoms of one.
