Gotta ask - why not install the complete kit?
jwight, I think I'm going with the H&R springs (used the H&R box in above pics). They were intended for my stock passion shocks (35K miles), I decided against that idea and went with the Brabus + H&R... So I now have the Brabus springs extra...

I started with just springs, then stock shock replacements, now this... (This is how it always seems to begin =)
I've considered the suspension upgrade but most posts say the car actually rides harsher than the stock setup. What do you think?
No telling. I talked to silverbrabus about it, he recommended it until he switched to coilovers ;-/

I literally got this in the mail yesterday, I'll be wrenching through it this weekend! It'll be somewhat of an upgrade for me, I think my stock shocks are pretty shot at the moment, ride quality has noticeably deteriorated...

I will let you know...

Just a tad.........
Shocks

Who makes coilovers for Smart? Who has them and what do they think of them. Is the ride softer or stiffer, cornering etc. Thanks

KW makes a set of coilovers for the car. I have not tried them, but with my experience with coilovers on my lexus, it does make the car stiffer, but everything is adjustable to the way you like it (height and stiffness)

H&R makes lowering springs for the car. Not sure if Eibach makes any either, but you can always look.
Only did the springs from smart madness and didn't feel a lot of difference in cushioning from stock. I changed to the genius wheels and 190/50/15 tires at the same time so that clouds the comparison somewhat. The short wheelbase is responsible for the choppy ride and that doesn't change when you go to new springs and/or shocks. Having more air between you and the road always helps to make things more cushy so staying with 15 inch wheels is important.
Good coilovers have always seemed to give the best balance of comfort and performance in other cars over the years so it would be good to hear from those that have tried that method.
Finally installed the Brabus shocks/struts + H&R, ride quality with the factory 15's was lousy at best, especially since the road conditions here in OK are akin to Nairobi in parts. Front install was the most taxing thing i have ever taken on (sigh).

However, got some Darwin 15/17's on it with Toyo P4's (205/50-15 & 215/40-17), HUUGE difference, i'd compare the ride quality to the stock passion suspension / 15" setup that came with the car. Love it.

NOTE: With the slightly larger tire sidewalls (lack of tire choices in an all-season tire), this thing looks slammed, i'm getting used to the look and no rubbing thus far, glad all the research worked out. Thank you SCoA & Randy Zimmer =)

Thanks stretchmobile, except something's gone terribly wrong, 300miles after springs and 2 days after wheels all of a sudden rubbing??? Not sure, I'll have to get the wrench out ;-/
I have always found after installing new springs, it takes a couple of hundred miles for things to settle in. The car is now probably a bit lower than when you first did the install.

Turns out it was a loose wheel bolt (for now).
wait.... but doesnt the H&R only drop the car .6" in front and 1.2" rear? that looks like a mega drop!!! =O looks soooo sexy though....

and eibach does a 0.8" all around... grr...
you have gotten me tempted on H&R now!!! wonder how that would look on stock 15's for now
