We got back to our winter home after 18 months out of the country. Our 2014 Smart Car shows no sign of life. Not sure how much of that time it’s been plugged in or otherwise.

Dealer in Riverside has stopped support. West Covina person says if we leave the car unplugged for more than one month it will crash the battery.

Can anyone confirm that? Plugged it in overnight, cable shows green, but car is still dead.

suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks!

Prognosis doesn't sound good.
Sadly past instances have not been kind.
More than likely your drive battery has bricked. That and lack of dealerships doesn't help.
I would make sure the 12v battery you buy can be returned.
Good luck

Definitely bricked.. Reason 1 - pre 2016 battery unless it has had software upgrade to alleviate the self destruction of HV battery. Reason 2. Basically even with the software fix, you still have to keep the vehicle either plugged in or the 12V on a continuous trickle charge. Only out is if you purchased extended battery warranty when you bought the vehicle ( if you bought it new) or you bought it from someone who bought the extended warranty when they bought it new. The warranty is tied to the car (VIN). I would call Mercedes and see if it the car had an extended battery warranty when purchased. If it has a battery warranty and it was serviced at a dealership then Mercedes will replace the battery. If no warranty, you are SOL unfortunately. I just went through this and was lucky enough to have purchased a vehicle from the first owner who had purchased the warranty when the car was new. Had the warranty transferred to my name and received a brand new battery.
