Hi Joe, did you ever find the location of this valve? I have an engine code of P2440 and it says this valve is bad, I looked all over, under , etc and cannot find it.

thanks,
Kevin

If he found it, he is not telling us. He has not been back on line since his only post.

Thanks, I appreciate it.
Too bad, I have a replacement valve in my toolbox (according to the parts catalog for a 2016 Smart 453 0.9) and I'd like to swap it out before using the dealer, if I could ever find the value, or a picture on the Internet showing were it is.
I wonder if anyone has a favorite repair manual for this smart model that they can attest to that is thorough enough to invest in, and use for repairs.
hi,
i do apologies for not responding. i finally changed the change over valve at my local mechanic. you can only reach it by lifting the car and getting to the valve from under. he charged me $50 for the service. ( i had the part) engine light off.

The changeover valve malfunction seems to be the most common issue with the 453s. Had that issue with mine as did others on the forum.
true, however nobody could find were the part is located

Most were probably replaced under warranty, as mine was, so no need to know where it was located. Good to know for those who are now out of warranty.
Just a picture or a diagram of it's location would be really fantastic for those close to or already out of warrantee .
Okay, HAD to find and replace this valve over the weekend. Sucked to find, but the swap was easy. It’s literally right behind the intake manifold where you absolutely cannot get to it from the top.

I jacked up the passenger side of the car about a foot so I could slide under the car. It’s a one hand job to get the valve to release then you can move it to the top of the engine to swap the lines over. Takes about 15 minutes to do, all told.

Looking up from the bottom, you can see the valve. The tricky part is one handing the release clip. Then unplug the electrical connector. You can then push the valve up through where the vacuum lines come down.

Swap over the two lines and vent piece, and put it all back in its hiding spot.

This last picture is from the top. I could barely slide my phone in there to see the clip. Hopefully this gives everyone a good idea of what to do for the seemingly elusive changeover valve.

I CHANGED THIS CHANGEOVER VALVE AND NO HELP FOR THE P2440 CODE. Edit: I re seated the connector and reset check engine and it went away for good!
Other than an engine code, why would you need to change this valve? Were you experiencing rough idle or some other symptom?

I'm experiencing gas smell and only two hoses are connected, one going nowhere.
Where do those two hoses go? One of mine is hanging loose.

1 is just a vent
