Other countries in the world incentivize smaller car ownership. Some regions have “progressive rate” car classes. Want to buy a Lamborghini Urus? Cool, well your road tax is going to be greater than the person piloting around a Renault Twingo.

City cars are thriving in China and Japan, where space is even more critical than it is in Europe. :)

I lived in Japan for 3 years during the early 90s. I still love some of the K-cars of that day, the Toyota Sera, Daihatsu Charade, Honda Beat and Suzuki Cervo were the models that started my interest in tiny cars.

Unfortunately, the US will never see mainstream cars like these because many don’t pass US emission or safety standards.

If I recall correctly, there was even a Suzuki Cervo model that had a 2-stroke “lawnmower” engine. Don’t quote me on that though, the old brain pan isn’t what it used to be. Now I have CRS. Can’t Remember Sh.... um, Stuff.
