I'm looking to replace my clutch because of shifting problems in my 2010 Smart ForTwo Passion Cabrio however it's like $3,200. Not sure it's worth it since the car is only worth about half 6K. Also battery won't hold charge. Any advice?
Thanks!

As to your first comment; questions of worth and value can only be answered by you. Is it worth it TO YOU to keep the car running?

Lastly, a battery not holding charge could be a bad battery, a faulty alternator or a parasitic draw somewhere. I'd start by yanking the battery and having it tested. After that have the alternator tested. If both are ok then I'd start tracking down parasitic draw in the car. Start at the fuse block with the car off. Good luck.

Here's a clutch kit for under 300 bucks: Amazon.com Are you really sure the clutch is bad? :)
Thank you! I'm actually not sure I'm convinced it's a bad clutch. Last time they replace a bolt that goes between the clutch, engine, transmission and that seemed to help. Thank you for the advice and link!

Thank you! I do love the car and got it brand new in 2010 and only have 93K miles on it. I think I want to keep it as it's in great condition with 93K miles on it. I think rather and spend 3200 on it I'll let my uncle who is a mechanic work on it as it is my second car.

…start with the easy things first…
…test the battery under load…
…connect a multimeter to battery and check static voltage…12.3-12.6 run engine and verify 13.8 to 14.5 means a good alternator…
…what is the “shifting issue” you have??

jetfuel…let us know

Thank you! I'll try that with the battery. It works ok while driving decent speed. But taking off at a stop sign it does a jerking thing until it gets out of first gear. And she doesn't like reverse or backing up so much, does the jerking thing too. I had it serviced couple year ago and they just replaced a motor mount bolt I think and it worked fine.

Have you had the transmission software updated on your Smart by an Smart/MB dealer? That must do maintenance for shifting and clutch adjustments. Mercedes dealers had major new software updates that improved clutch release, shift/ throttle timing etc. many people bought these cars used and never took them back to MB dealers. I cost me $100 to get the reflash and acts like a new trans and clutch at 55,000 miles. I use the dealership who has decent rates on smart cars. They have all the tools. But im lucky to have a clise mecedes dealer that was a big Smart dealer.

That’s way too expensive for a clutch replacement. Should be about half that. I’ve done several they usually last 100k or way beyond.
