I picked up my 2016 Turbo 5-speed on Tuesday and it was listed as runs & drives but it won't do either. I pulled the battery and charged it as it wasn't even lighting up the dash.

I ended up getting 5 codes. 3 were the P2610 and two were C003A AND C0037 which are the wheel speed sensors. I'll worry about them once I get it running. From what I have seen about the P2610 I may need a new ECU? Timing seems quite odd. The coolant reservoir was empty but I wouldn't think that would stop me from starting the car. It cranks continuosly and occasionally will misfire but not stay running.

Has anyone run into this before? This is my first Smart so I'm curious if anyone has been down this road before. D

Don't mind the tape on the front end. Copart didn't know how to close/lock the hood on a Fortwo.

Unfortunately their terminology only means that it started and moved under its own power when it first arrived at their facility. There's no further guarantee and once it leaves the lot it's all over.

I have no history on the car unfortunately other than the temp tag I found inside that was issued in November and was clearly removed at the auction site. I plan to attempt to siphon the gas today or find the fuel line and see if I can drain the tank using the pump and put fresh premium in it. If that yields nothing I'll move to checking the spark plugs and see if my pressure tester will work on it.

Before I went to the trouble of draining the gas tank I would disconnect the fuel line going to the fuel rail and stick it in a container, then have a helper turn the key on, without cranking the engine, so the fuel pump will run some gas into the container. Then let it sit for awhile and see if a layer of water separates out at the bottom….Maybe

Will do. I'm on military orders this week so I won't be home until later tomorrow night but should get a chance to mess with it for a bit before I have to let it sit until after next weekend.
