Ok I don't want to set a depart time so that my car air conditioner will come on and be cool before I leave. I just want to set it if possible to start charging like at 5 AM in the morning when it's not so hot instead of having it start charging the minute I plug it in. Is that possible. Don't really want to use an external timer to start charging.re-reading sounds like if you set charge and depart for 7 am the car will be cooled or heated. Not what I want.

No timer on smart ed, i setup.solid state relsys on my 220v line and schedule turn on turn off times.

OK thanks. What was confusing to me when I read the manual besides talking about if you wanted to have air-conditioning come on at a certain time or heat it also talked about charging in non-peak times like in the evening which gave me the impression that you could automatically set that but unfortunately no. Below is what the manual says which sure sounds like it could have been automatic.


This is useful If you wish to charge the vehicle at a charging station/wallbox at the most inexpensive electricity rate. Not sure why they would have had that in the manual as it sure made you think you could set a time. Oh well. Not a big deal. Glad it's cleared up.

Besides the preheat/precool feature, the "Charge and Depart" feature is supposed delay charging so it is just charged at the selected "departure" time.

But for some reason, this feature does not work in US/Canada Smart ED's. Only the preheat/precool feature works. Someone forgot to tell the writers of the US/Canada English owners manual about this.

The only way is to set up a timer at the 120/240 volt end like Htiek Jenkins wrote. My "Open EVSE" Level 2 (240 volt) charging station has a charge timer feature.

Ok well at least I know. It's not a big deal but manual was just confusing. Seems like such a simple feature they could have included. Still love the car. Hope the traction battery lasts a long time.
