Lil Booger keeps getting closer to death. Chasing CEL after another. an alternator and belt tensioner. The latest seems to be the air control valve and pump. Has anyone dealt with that? Thanks

It's a shame, your area, doesn't have a Christian Brothers Automotive. Good honest auto service. Cheaper then a MB dealer. Been taking all our vehicles to them out of warranty now.

Sounds like your vehicle is far from death. Cheaper to fix it. Then buying a new car. Have you checked out salvage yards for parts?

Glad it's the car and not you!
Sadly, every single one of us are creeping toward death since birth, some are moving a little faster than others,
but no one gets out of life alive..
Do the best with what time you are given.

Lil Booger has been sitting outside waiting. Been preoccupied with the lack of power from the electrical grid for a few days. Been driving my wife's 500C. It needed a crankshaft seal at one point, paid for by the manufacturer along with a loaner car. Anything other than routine maintenance they picked up the tab for it. The only thing smart ever popped for was a battery that failed in the first months of its life. Mercedes is very good at sending me to the cashiers window.

My smart is by far the most expensive car to run that I have owned. Kinda misses the point of the car in my view. My problem is I still love the car.

I can see where you’re coming from. I think it’s more the dealership than the car itself though.

Most expensive fix mine had so far was a replacement panoramic roof, but that was covered under warranty.

The Dealer I bought the car from (took delivery from more accurately) is no longer one. New Country Motorcars in Hartford took that job and my car has not seen that place since they handed me a bill for 4k bucks after I took the car to them with an ABS light lit. Won't go back there on a bet. Rather drive to Rode Island Dealer to buy parts I cant find elsewhere than give the other a nickle.

So far this summer the car has swallowed an alternator, belt tension-er , secondary air valve and secondary air pump. Along with many hours of shop time chasing various CEL's. The car is my winter motorcycle. I would love to get at least another year out of it. The chassis isn't very rusty yet.

I have the good fortune to be married to a good looking woman. The mother of my children did not lure me in with cooking skills. She can and does cook well. Four good looking Grand kids are a big plus to me as well. We shared the smart. She rarely drives it anymore.

After all the work you've had done I hope it lasts you another 10 years.

If I may suggest get parts online from a discount smart parts store, or other parts source like Home Depot where the other guy got a handle....

If you need any replacement instructions please feel to PM me. My mailbox is now less full....

CEL for running too cool lit up again. Took it to a local shop and noticed that the cooling fan in the nose was running from start up and was still on when I got to the shop. Just a few miles. Bad temp sensor? Where to look.

We got our smarts about the same time. However, Max has never given any kind of trouble over the 9.5 years of ownership. He currently has 71.5 K miles on him and spend the first 3 years in the woods of Maine. That said, he never was used during the winter, bad weather (my wife and I were retired by the time Max was delivered) and always garaged. I'm wondering if a lot of your problems are due to using yours all year long in New England.
