Hiya, I have a Smart Fortwo City cabriolet pulse 2003.
sometimes it just cuts out which isn’t great, especially on a busy road where I can’t pull over. It generally restarts after a few mins.
Ive been told I have to take it a smart dealer but don’t want to pay an arm and leg.
any advice would be much appreciated.

For an 03 you might get better help on clubsmartcar.com as the 450 wasn't available in the US so fewer people will be familiar with them.
The causes could be anything from a simple injector to a chafed wire. When was your last tuneup?
Any competent mechanic should be able to assist you.

Try this first Fuel injector cleaner, in the tank. Change you spark plug.

Since you are in the UK, you'd be better off asking one of the UK-based smart clubs for assistance and maybe for names of a few shops near you. I am in one (www.therealsmartcarownersclub.co.uk) that has a base of 8000 members including Kane of Evilution fame.
