Just replaced the 12v battery on my coupe with another OE battery. Old original battery had a date code of 11/13 stamped on the bottom of the case and 1/14 engraved into the negative terminal. The new battery had a date code of 11/19 on the underside and 3/20 on the negative terminal. What's the significance of the different dates - curious?

Thanks. Yeah, that was kind of my guess too. Just wanted to the input of others.

What I also found interesting is that the battery manufacturer is not shown anywhere on the battery that I could find. It used to be that even after the star was added to a part that the manufacturer left his ID somewhere on the part. Varta used to be the main provider of batteries for Mercedes.
