Hey all. Recently, my wife's 2014 Smart Fortwo Passion (lovingly named Little Pip) has had a horrendous smell of death coming from the ac vents. I found a small mouse dropping on the front of the defrost area, which leads me to the assumption there is a dead mouse somewhere int he AC work. My question is, is there any way to access the ac vents and what not to try and find and remove the rodent remains? I believe it to be relatively close to the front windshield, but csn;t be sure. any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would go to an auto parts store & buy an aerosol can of A/C mold eliminator. I doubt if a rodent got in there unless they chewed there way in there. I would remove the cabin filter, replace it, & spray some of the aerosol product into the blower & evaporator housing as well as the air inlet & the dash vents.

To answer your question, if the dead mouse is on the downstream side of the heater core/AC evaporator but out or reach than about all you can do is wait for the decomposition to become complete. Maybe try running the blower on high while spraying Clorox solution down the defrost slots and then into the slot where the cabin air filter goes while the blower is on high. Of course, change the cabin air filter too.
this is not just to get rid of the smell, but also to preclude the small, but non-zero possibility of the deadly hantavirus carried by wild wood-mice (white-footed and deer mice) - specifically their droppings and urine residue. The Monongahela variant of this virus has killed people in my area (West Virginia and W. Pennsylvania)
