A friend sent me this pic, so I know nothing of its origin, if it really was a deer, or just what. It is interesting to note the Tridion Cell is quite intact, thank you smart very much!

Any details on this pic would be appreciated.

Picture has been around forever. Probably one of the first crash tests on a 450 smart (European) notice the 3 tail lights and small side window in the back. There is no chance a deer could cause that much damage. They don't have enough mass to rip the whole front end off like that.

There is another photo that goes around with 2 dump trucks and a supposed smart car between them (crushed) also a fake. Look closely and you will see too many lug nuts on the wheels.
People enjoy picking on smarts and to think they have a superior knowledge about them when all they know is the crap the 'car experts' regurgitate in reviews. few of them have ever driven one.

Sorry, just one of my pet peeves I guess...

Definitely not a deer. It was a last generation smart 450 at 70 mph into a concrete barrier. The other side is basically intact with a still working door. I DID hit a deer with mine the day after I got it. Plastic panels rebounded and I had to replace a busted headlight. I did all the work myself - no insurance claim. Although it was a relatively low speed hit after emergency braking, it would have cost a lot more to fix my previous Honda Civic with a busted front end and dented hood. And, that's why my smart auto insurance is so cheap. :)

The whole video can be found here:

Now how on Earth did you pick my video out of the sea of hundreds? :)

But yuppers, that is the result of the infamous Fifth Gear crash test. Scientific evidence doesn't support the hosts' theories that forces will kill you but hey, it's TV...I don't expect the greatest degree of accuracy from a band of hosts who were let go from Top Gear.

One of mine too. Especially that dump truck picture. A guy at an oil change place (customer) informed me of it just the other day, as though every smart owner hasn't seen the damned thing.

Next time someone spams you with that photo, shoot this detail from it back at them, along with a piece of your mind.

My favorite is the "smart car vs semi" rumour.

As if smarts had a tire rack, rear seats, single taillight lenses, and a "CROSSFOX" decal along the side...

I'll bet the converse hurts more...
That certainly looks like it would smart! I think the main thing is the relative velocity! When I'm spun-out going down hill in top gear I'm nearing 50 mph. I don't think the deer can run that fast! However, on the flat I usually don't get much past 20... Either way, it could leave a mark!

This story actually made Snopes. It was a Ford Escape...

I have video on my dashcam of me hitting a deer with the Sleigh. I tell people I was trying to teach him to fly! Luckily it was low speed and besides leaving some hair and minor scratches from the hooves the smart car did just fine.
