I wanted to remind those of you who have never been out this way or driven in the country that we have lots of wildlife running in the area, especially deer. Most of the time they come out from dusk to dawn, but I can tell you from personal experience, that they do wander all day long. Be careful, they don't stop for cars and they don't look both ways. While I can personally guarantee that the Smartie will win the deer versus car match, we don't want you to have to go home with pieces of your car in the hatch.:read::(

It was broad daylight, a deer ran out and totaled our Honda Fit. Last summer. Hit the drivers side of the vehicle. Police said, my wife was lucky she was still alive. My wife was driving in a suburb area.

7 years ago, we traveled to Eurkea Springs Ak. Lot of curvy road, forest. A deer ran right in front of our smart car. It's tail hit the front of the car. No damage. But OMG. Too close for comfort.

A few years back, I recall a 200 mile autumn trip to spend a night at a West Virginia Casino. In route, not driving a smart, a deer hit the front right of the car. Once there & checked in, we drove to the casino and another deer hit us in the back left. After a while at the one arm bandits, got tired & went to the room. Wouldn't you know, yep, the front left got hit by another deer. Finally made it back to the room & checked out the following day and had to make a pit stop at the casino. No problem. We won a little & lost a little more. Time to leave thinking we have had enough of the deer accidents in West Virginia and not 25 miles from casino, yep, we got hit in the back right. The police officer which recorded our 1st and 3rd encounter showed up for this one coming up to our car laughing & shaking his head. We talked and I told him I was from WV. I then told him I had deer whistles on the car and even showed them to him. He looked up at me and gave me the biggest "NCIS Gibbs slap" and said, "YOU NUMMY, YOU GOT THEM ON BACKWARDS".

This Grampa was run over by a reindeer!

A couple years back just before Christmas I put on a round red nose on the grill and the antlers that go on the windows on my smart. I thought that looked cool with my big white beard. That evening driving to a friend's house for a card game...you guessed it. The windshield was smashed big time, the left front fender and hood were ruined, and the left headlight attachments were broken. The plastic was cracked on the panels and pinched off the fur from the deer looking like eyebrows in the fenders.

The insurance adjuster told me a number of people have accidents and try to say it was a deer hit as they don't count as accidents and are covered by comprehensive instead of collision. He said there was absolutely no doubt how my smart was damaged.

Lesson learned.........deer are attracted to other deer so don't dress your smart up as a reindeer!
