Hey,
Just added net pocket to the boot area.

Here is step by step.

1. Get the metal coat hanger. Cut and bend it to the shape of boot pocket (see pictures).

.

.
2. Boot pocket already have cutouts for the wire to install.

.
3. I used trunk storage net I found in my garage. I believe you can get it from any Walmart or Automotive store, or if you cheap, just go to your nearest junk yard and you can get them for couple of bucks (you can find them in the trunks of a lot of the cars).

.
Cut it to the size of the pocket.

.

4. Here is the most difficult part: feed the net thru the wire. It took me couple of tries to make sure that everything is even and it have correct tension. Slip wire and net over the pocket (see photo)

.
Use fat rubber band (I used the band off cargo net I just destroyed) and feed it thru the top portion of the net and tie knot on the back.

Last step: put everything back in your smart.

All project took about 20 minutes.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.......

Good luck.

Old thread revival!

I just made one myself. $4 for half a yard of a heavy mesh from Jo-Ann Fabrics, less than $2 for a 1/4" elastic cord, and a re-purposed metal clothes hanger.

Worked out pretty well. I'll have to bend the hanger over on the end like OP did, but so far, so good. I probably won't be buying the Smart branded net set now that I have this. Thanks for figuring this out cubefx!

Mesh from Jo-Ann's. Somehow that never crossed my mind. Been looking at my local junkyard for a good cargo net with no success. I'll be heading over there this weekend now! :D
