I picked up some LED dome light bulbs this week from SmartMadness. When I went to replace the bulb, I found this.

Kind of scary to think this was going on right over my dome light.

This was in a 2013 ED for your reference.

I wonder what that duct tape and foam is even doing up there? There's nothing flammable above my dome light.

I was thinking they should have repaired that damage too. I guess it could have gone either way, either denied warranty or repaired under warranty....

Guess you could bring it up to the smart Center suggesting that they need to replace some burned wires? Probably not ...

I'll bet that someone put a higher output bulb in the dome light either as a replacement for a burned out bulb or possibly to give a brighter light. Or the bulb could have ignorantly been replaced with the incorrect "wattage" of bulb. At any rate a larger bulb that created more heat was in there at one time and possibly left on for too long. Those little air vents on both sides of the 451 dome light were put in there for a reason. If a person were to install an aircraft landing light bulb on their dome light, they should have installed a fan on it. Chris just install the proper bulb or better yet an LED and you will be okay. You might want to pop that part of the panelling off and investigate more completely. And maybe remove the foam and duct tape.

Aircraft landing lights wow blast from the past.
When I was in high school, I replaced the high beams on my 70 Dodge Challenger with flat lens aircraft landing lights. A buddy, had them on his Road Runner.
Western Auto in town set me up with the lights and custom wiring harness, they were a perfect fit.
I was warned to only use them while moving because they run hot and may melt any plastic around them.

I put in an LED I got from SmartMadness. That's how I discovered it.
