Quick question to the group: I picked up an '08 451 cab 38k miles late last December with what I assumed would've been a quick easy fix ESP-Brake-ABS-lights on issue. The rest of the car looked and felt great and the price reflected the fault (I thought, at the time). Fast forward to today I've gone through (from what I've gathered on the interwebs) a checklist of usual suspects: ABS Reluctor rings (good condition), Brake Light switch (working), ABS/ESP module (scans were pulling low voltage errors so in went a reconditioned module), steering wheel angle sensor (replaced) and finally a light cleaning up of the speed sensors/hubs. I'm at the point now where the ESP light goes off but returns momentarily. Currently, there appears to be static or noise from the wheel speed sensor (either the hub or sensor itself) so I'm looking into replacing those as well.

Is there anything else I should be considering? Anything I may have missed? It's really turning into a head scratcher. The rest of the car is in tip top condition and have been driving really well.

TIA, this is my first post here. In past years, I’ve been active on the BMW boards. I really love the 451, best personality-to-weight-to-value ratio on the market!

DC451Cab,

I’m having exactly the same problem. It just started after almost a decade of happy Smarting about.

Do you have the fault codes? My code reader pulled U1111 and U1113. I’m curious to know if you found the same.

I’m in the process of troubleshooting and I’m eager to hear what you find.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will update you shortly with the initial fault codes.

Current status : will recheck the wheel speed sensors once more and decide if replacements are warranted. Also, someone on the facebook forums kindly suggested checking the electrical grounding might not be a bad idea, particularly the ground cables at the battery and in the back right corner of the engine compartment. The poster recommended to check the AC voltage at the battery and alternator as well (for fluctuations).

So we're down to either signal disruption or malfunction from the wheel sensors or voltage anomalies tripping up the ESP light.

If these last strategies do not work, I'm not sure what to do next. We've already gone over practically the whole system!

Had that on Mine when i changed steering col, check steerong angle with cpde reader, also yaw sensor under drv seat
If it does not agree with angle it errors

My autel shows 0 degrees steering angle when wheels are straight, if it shows anything else traction control is turned off right after car is started
