I wonder how many December sales are actually taking place in January.

I'm thinking mainly of cars ordered by customers way back in October that took "forever" to reach the dealerships, such as mine which is finally going to arrive at the dealer within the next day or so.

There is no "sale" until the vehicle is titled . . .

Yours will be a January sale.

Monthly Plug-In Sales Scorecard

Ouch, only 76 sold in February.

I have to wonder what smart is doing. Only 76 sold, but Midwest dealers still are being shipped extremely little inventory and my delivery is going to take nearly six months from order to delivery date. I really, really hope they're not cutting back production on a model that represents 30% of their sales and is likely going to make or break smart's future.

76/450 is 17%, nowhere near the 30%-50% level over the past year.

Of course, they are building 451/453 on the same assembly line, so they may just be catching up on 453 orders and selling off the last of the 451 gas inventory...

For what it's worth the weekend Wheels section of the Toronto Star was very 'electric' with lots of news in our world.

I don't know what the price of lithium was, but it just shot up to $23,000 a ton! Yikes that certainly won't help keeping costs down. With Tesla having now taken deposits for over 400,000 Model 3's there might be a fight at the ok corral down the road.

Apparently Ford is going to limit the range of the new 2017 Focus to 160 km's so they can keep the battery costs down. Current models get 122 km range so it is a slight improvement.

Hybrid electrics sales are expected to be one-third of car sales by 2025 and Electrics will be 6% by then. This info is from a research firm called FEV.

Also in the paper was a big write up about the Twizy made by Renault. It has the regulators in a tizzy because it doesn't fit into current laws and provincial regulations. It is coming to Canada eventually when rules are sorted out. Since 2012 they have sold 17,000 units in 40 countries.

The price of the batteries and the supply of lithium is going to be a big concern going forward. It is already in short supply according to the news item. Where does the lithium come from you ask? China, Australia, Argentina, Bolivia and Chile. Imported and now much more expensive.
