When I turn the key to turn the engine on it the spark sound lingers, then sputters/fades away; then the car starts. Its been happening more often and it seems like the lingering goes on longer before the car starts up. Anybody have any ideas whats going on? Going to try to remove & test the starter.

Replaced the fuel pump a while back w/ a used one from ebay b/c the nipple cracked on the original one.
The spark plugs are fine. Voltmeter says battery is 12.9 so its in good shape.

An actual electrical spark? What part of the engine (if that's where it is)? Any chance of a photo?

No by "sparks" I am referring to the sound you hear right before the engine actually starts. You know, when you turn the key the sound you hear before you let go of the key.

From new, mine had this little glitch “if” I turned over the engine immediately upon putting the key in the ignition . BUT , if I. Let the dash lights go thru it’s Check’s and balances of the systems it starts everytime without issue . Not sure if that allows proper priming or allows all systems to be ready for starting . I atribute it to the quirkiness Smart ownership . It’s a non issue for me now .
