I see in some YouTube videos the backup camera is now displayed on the dash media center.

What an improvement from the rear view mirror display!

Has anybody investigated the possibly of upgrading our 2018 and 2019 with the smart media system?

Should be possible, but expensive, to go OEM. There are lots of after-market solutions. I've considered putting a seicane unit in my 2017, including the reversing camera.
