For sure, there is a solution, but it is more tricky also like some others.

Not only the P18051C could not be cleared by simple clea DTC via a tester approach.
There are also some others like
P0AA100 (also latched)
P0AA400 (also latched)
P0AC029 (ask GoSmartService for replacement of Current sensor or ask me)
P180D13 (indicate a hw defect of BMS -> need to be repaired in shop)
...
...
All failures related to isolation error in not connected HV Bus -> (indicate a hw defect of BMS -> need to be repaired in shop)

So in meantime anything could be repaired easily if yoiu know how. The knowledge is spread to all continents and countries (even Portugal). Even how to repair the stacks.
You should have received several PNs

Cheers

I am an old fart (A boomer as they say in the USA) and I find these technical engineering challenges in restoring the ED to running operation becasue of arbitrary actions of unknown software authors, rather than, you know, the laws of physics, to be ridiculous. These consequences of bad software go way beyond just Smart EDs being rendered useless bricks, it also kills people (Boeing, Airbus). It is for this reason, as a licensed real engineer, that I refuse to regard software so-called "engineers" as actual engineers.

I can tell you working more than 13 years in aerospace business not too complicate. Ok with the engineering background it is maybe much more easy, but within 1 year i digged deep in the overall Smart ED3 topics and think i publish and distribute more detailed proven information than anybody else.

In meantime i also can respect the inital work Askold from SmartCar of Ukraine spend in the Smart investigation and repair. Even we have sometimes different opinion :)

Main issue the old boomer as you say try to handle a EV like a combustion engine driven car. Also a ICE car need to be made winter proof like change of liquids and so on.

For electric vehicles the most critical component is not the HV but as investigate by the ADAC the issues with the 12V battery.

Every car shop will take an addition standby charger to the 12V system. Independ of ICE or EV. So in this times of Corona and also during winter time it is a bad idea to let a car stay alone.
I can tell you i even installed a wifi in the garage and can always see was is going on with my Smarts, because i even own more than one.

I realised even a good battery installed in 2020 start to be loss capacity and get recharged beginning every 5 day to now every 20h. So i loss within 1 week not paying attention about 5% SoC in the HV. The main reason is the wrong charging behavior after load only with leakage load by awaking or minor loads.

So i start the action like all big car shops do it. I installed a storage supporting charger on the 12V side. Costs less than 35$ and save all the effort and costs. There is even a original one from VW caled VAS and could be plugged to the OBD2 connector linked to KL31-GND and KL30 +12V linked to battery. If there is no load on the HV battery there is now issue.
You also could just disconnect the 12V battery. The HV battery will hold the charge over month without any issues. All other is bullshit and fake news.

You just need to be aware on the technics is not a old diesel truck or tank you could start easily after several years by just replacing the 12V battery.

And even the software is not more complex like a 2015 car because all ECUs are based on unit used in several other cars. Even the software design behind is equal. It is just electronics. Working in the business i know there will no oldtimer of the actual generation of cars. It is just too complex to make them run again in 10 years.

Never the less the Smart ED3 get more and more a open plattform. Also the technics behind is really advanced and far from some other cars build later in time.

You just need to know the right guys and get the right information.

Sometime you need just to ask.

But nobody in the <openinverter.org> forum has yet built an open logic board for the ED3 inverter. What can be done however, is to use a gen3 Prius inverter switching the logic board to a currently available open logic board. Only problem is finding some space for the much bigger prius inverter, LOL.

Hi All, I'm new to the forum and trying to get some help... I recently bought a 2013 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive. In short, It was a big mess, the seller lied about so many things but anyways...
I need a HV battery replacement or someone that would have a few cells in good condition.
Is there anyone that could sell it to me, or help me to find maybe in a junkyard and ship it to me?

I would be happy to pay for your time, I just don't want to have to sent the car for scrap metal...

Thanks, Daniel.
