I have come to really be annoyed at the exhaust drone noise and was wondering if anyone has done anything about it short of putting on an aftermarket system which I can't afford.

And, the system is intact....no rust, rot, damage or any thing else

Better interior insulation. Get a roll of weatherstripping from the local auto parts/hardware store and line the bottoms of your doors with it.

Dynamat and similar also work great, but they get expensive really quickly. :/

As stupid as this is going to sound, I combat the drone noise 2 ways. First I shift manually to keep the RPMS a little higher. It thinks it has to been in 5th gear by 30 mph, I hang it back to 4th and ignore the upshift arrow on the dash panel. Low RPM's and pushing the throttle at those low RPM's causes it to drone. Secondly I mask the noise by playing the radio. A little background noise from music negates that drone for me. I did double up on the carpet over the motor cover which helped slightly, but I did it because the existing carpet got so warm it would melt my ice cream from the grocery store before I made it home (out in the country). You will find most after market exhausts to be much louder than your stock one. I gave up trying to make people think it had a V-8, and they pass me just as much with my Turbo emblem on the back as they did before I got it.DCO
