Oil for a Smart car must meet MB 229.5 specification.
This can come in 0W-30, 5W-30, 0W-40, or 5W-40...


I found Pennzoil Euro 0W-40 to be the cheapest, and quietest running...

Antifreeze
I used Xerex G-05...

Careful, I found the factory fill to be very weak, like 35-40%,

so I would get a jug of full strength, and use about 8-16 ounces,

after that, 50/50 mix. Used distilled water...

Oil filter for the 451, first generation Smarts, is a Fram 6607 / Purolator 14612


Oil capacity is 3.7 quarts.


A Fram 7317 / Purolator 14610 also fits, and is a little longer...
Oil capacity becomes 4 quarts with the longer filter...
