greetings folks,
i just purchased a 2013 passion. the front end appears to be lower than stock and i find that it is bottoming out on larger bumps. i measured the distance from the ground to the top of the front fender arch to be 23". is this the stock height? the springs appear to be stock (black with the purple dots).

here's a pic:

"LARGER BUMPS" especially at speed are not the friend of smart suspension with it's limited shock/spring travel. Sorry that I can't confirm your measurement as I am not running OEM springs.

Potholes @ 80 mph have been known to bend rims AND loosen tooth fillings . . .

Rear suspension is too tall and the front too short.

I wonder if the previous owner picked up some ED rear springs from eBay and got them installed. That would transfer enough of the weight forward since those springs have a lift to them.

I'd suggest getting the suspension inspected. IIRC the front wheels aren't supposed to have much camber either.

Something looks screwy about the front height of your car. Sits to low. Rear end looks like it’s sitting high. Looks like something broken. I’d take it into a smart dealership. Have it looked at.

quick update. the issue turned out to be broken springs on both sides (upper portion). i ordered a pair of Lesjofors oem spec springs ( pn 4086006). what is the cause of the stock springs snapping? is it due to design or manufacturing? hopefully, the Lesjofors will last longer.

i decided to tackle the job myself with assistance from my wife. a bit embarrassing to admit it took 3 hours on the first side and 2 on the second, including a few breaks and cleaning along the way. the bearing and rubber "muffin" (as my wife called it) were fine. i just cleaned them up a bit and applied grease.

we took it for a test drive and all seems well. no more bottoming out. there is a slight knocking over bumps which sounds similar to swaybar links play that i've experienced in my truck. it's not too noticeable, but it's there.

thanks everyone for your feedback and information.
