Fuel Cap Warning Light?

1839 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  valvestem
Hey All,

When I power on my 2013 Petrol Powered Smart, I see a little "Fuel Cap" warning light (right under the battery light, left hand side) come on for a second as part of the instrument cluster's lamp test, which then goes out.

Every time I've managed to leave my gas cap loose, however, it's triggered my Check Engine Light, and *not* this light.

What the heck is this indicator for, then? Are there different requirements in Europe, perhaps, where an evap leakage isn't required to be such a "ZOMG GET TO A MECHANIC NOW" error?

Good question. Most of us have had the same experience, even with intentionally leaving the cap off.
